The basics
7 questions
What is Arivna Browser?
Arivna is a web browser for Android phones with its own ad and tracker blocker, Arivna Shield, built in. It has tabs, private tabs, bookmarks, history, a download manager, reader view, night mode for websites and the other things you expect from a browser, without an account and without telemetry.
Is it free?
Yes. Arivna is free, with no subscription, no in-app purchases and no paid tier. It is also free software: the source code is published under GPL-3.0-or-later.
Does Arivna show ads?
No. Arivna contains no advertising code and we do not earn money from your browsing. Websites you open can still contain ads; Arivna Shield blocks many of them.
How is it different from Chrome or Firefox?
Facts, not rankings:
- Engine: Arivna uses Android System WebView, which is based on Chromium, the same project Chrome is built from. Firefox uses Mozilla's own Gecko engine.
- Ad blocking: Arivna has a blocker built in, with 13 public filter lists. Chrome for Android only filters ads on sites that break Google's ad standards and does not support extensions; Firefox for Android can use blocking extensions such as uBlock Origin.
- Account and sync: Chrome and Firefox offer sign-in and sync. Arivna has neither, so there is nothing to sign in to and nothing stored on our servers.
- Extensions: Firefox for Android supports add-ons. Arivna does not.
- Size: Arivna's download is 10.9 MB because it uses the WebView already on your phone instead of bundling an engine.
Which engine does Arivna use?
Pages are drawn by Android System WebView (Chromium), the web engine that comes with Android and is updated through Google Play or your phone maker. Arivna's own parts are the interface and the Rust ad-block engine. This means sites generally work as they do in Chromium-based browsers, and web engine security fixes arrive when WebView updates. See what Arivna is built on.
Which phones does it run on?
Android 8.0 (Oreo) or newer, on 64-bit and 32-bit ARM and x86_64 processors. It is built for Android 16. You also need Android System WebView, which is preinstalled on Android phones; keeping it updated helps sites work well.
Is there an iPhone, Windows or Mac version?
No. Arivna is Android only. There are no plans to announce for other platforms at the moment.
Privacy
6 questions
Does Arivna collect my data?
No. There is no account, no analytics, no telemetry and no crash reporting. Your history, bookmarks, tabs and settings are stored only on your phone and are excluded from Android cloud backup. The app does contact a few servers by itself (filter list servers, your search engine for suggestions, icon services for home shortcuts); the transparency page lists all of them and what is sent. Full details are in the privacy policy.
How do I delete my browsing data?
Settings > Delete browsing data lets you choose tabs, history, cookies and site data, cache, site permissions and the downloads list. Turn on "Delete browsing data on quit" to do it automatically when you quit. For a single site, open the site info sheet from the address bar and clear its cookies and data. To remove everything, clear Arivna's storage in Android settings or uninstall it; we hold no copy.
What do private tabs do?
Private tabs use their own temporary cookies and storage, separate from normal tabs. Pages you open in them are not saved to history, recent searches or the tab session, and the private profile is deleted when you close the last private tab. Search suggestions are off in private tabs unless you turn them on, and voice search there uses on-device recognition only.
Private tabs do not hide your IP address from websites or your network. Files you download stay in your Downloads folder. Private tabs need a WebView version that supports separate profiles; on older versions the option is hidden.
Why does Arivna ask for camera, microphone or location?
Only because a website asked for it (for example a video call, a map or a QR scanner), or because you tapped the microphone for voice search. Android asks you first, and Arivna asks per site. You can block these for all sites in Settings > Site settings. Notifications are used for download progress. Every permission is explained on the transparency page.
Does Arivna send Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control?
Yes, by default. The setting "Tell websites not to share & sell data" sends DNT and Sec-GPC signals. Websites decide whether to respect them.
Which search engine does it use?
Google by default. You can switch to DuckDuckGo, Bing, Brave Search, Ecosia, Startpage or Yahoo, or add your own, in Settings > Search. Search suggestions go to the engine you choose, and you can turn them off.
Ad blocking
6 questions
How does the ad blocker work?
Arivna Shield is an engine written in Rust that reads the same filter syntax as uBlock Origin and AdBlock Plus. It checks every request a page makes before it is sent and blocks known ads, trackers and malicious addresses, then hides leftover empty ad boxes. It uses 13 public filter lists, including uBlock Origin's lists, EasyList, EasyPrivacy, AdGuard and URLhaus. How Shield works.
Does it block YouTube ads?
Arivna has a YouTube ad cleanup option, on by default, that hides ad slots on YouTube pages and skips video ads that still reach the player. YouTube changes how it serves ads often, so results vary and some ads may get through or a fix may take time. It works on YouTube in the browser, not in the YouTube app.
Does it block every ad?
No ad blocker does. Ads served from the same address as the page content, or brand-new ad networks, can get through until the filter lists catch up. You can hide anything that remains with "Block element" in the menu: tap the item and it is saved as your own rule.
How do filter lists stay up to date?
The lists are bundled in the app, so blocking works from the first launch. When you open Arivna and the lists are more than a day old, it checks the list servers for new versions in the background. It uses conditional requests, so lists that have not changed are not downloaded again, and the engine is rebuilt only if something changed. You can tap "Update now", see when lists were last updated, or turn auto-update off on the Privacy shield screen.
A website looks broken. What should I do?
- Tap the shield icon at the left of the address bar to open the site info sheet, and switch off Enhanced Tracking Protection for that site. The page reloads. If the site works, the blocker was the cause.
- Arivna already includes uBlock Origin's "unbreak" and "quick fixes" lists, which fix many sites; tapping "Update now" gets the newest fixes.
- If you added your own rules with "Block element", check My filters and remove the one that hides too much.
- Please report it: open an issue on GitHub or email contactus@arivna.com with the page address and what is wrong. The network request log (menu > More) helps show which request was blocked.
Does Arivna use a lot of battery or mobile data?
We have not published battery or data measurements, so we will not quote numbers. What we can say: blocked ads and trackers are never downloaded, which saves data on ad-heavy sites; filter list updates happen at most about once a day and skip lists that have not changed; and downloads run in a foreground service only while a download is active.
Install and updates
5 questions
Where can I download Arivna?
From GitHub Releases, where every APK is published with its SHA-256 checksum. The Google Play listing (com.arivna.browser) is coming soon. The download page has step-by-step install instructions.
Is the APK from GitHub safe? How do I check it?
The official APK is built and signed by Nirvana Team. Before installing, compare the file's SHA-256 checksum with the one in the release notes, and if you have the Android build tools, check that the signing certificate fingerprint matches ours. Both values and the exact commands are on the transparency page. Only download from our GitHub releases page; copies on other sites may be modified.
Why does Google Play Protect warn me when I install it?
Play Protect may show a warning or offer to scan apps installed from outside Google Play, especially ones it has not seen often. That is normal for any sideloaded app. You can let it scan. Checking the checksum, as above, is the best way to be sure the file is ours.
Will the Google Play and GitHub versions update each other?
Both are signed with the same key, so Android treats them as the same app: you can install a newer version from either source over the one you have, without uninstalling and without losing your data. Arivna does not check for updates by itself. If you installed from GitHub, get new versions from the releases page; once the Play listing is live, installing Arivna from Play should take over your existing copy and Play will then keep it updated.
Can I make Arivna my default browser?
Yes. In Android settings, open Apps > Default apps > Browser app and choose Arivna (the exact menu names vary by phone maker).

4 questions
Does Arivna support extensions?
No. Android System WebView does not support browser extensions, so Arivna cannot run them. The most common reason people want one, ad blocking, is built in, along with an element picker and your own filter rules.
Can I sync bookmarks or tabs across devices?
No. Arivna has no accounts and no sync. Everything stays on the phone you use it on.
Does it save my passwords?
Arivna has no password manager of its own. It works with Android's autofill services, such as Google Password Manager or a password manager app you install. Menu > Passwords opens Android's autofill settings.
Can it translate pages?
Not yet. There is no built-in translation.

5 questions
Who makes Arivna?
Arivna is made by Nirvana Team, an independent team in India. It was created by Abhiraj Aryan, the team's founder.
How is Arivna related to Nirvana Browser?
They are sister products from the same team, built differently. Nirvana Browser is built on Firefox for Android code and uses uBlock Origin. Arivna is a separate browser that uses Android System WebView for pages and its own Rust ad-block engine. They do not share data or accounts (neither needs one).
Is Arivna open source? Under which licence?
Yes. The source code is at github.com/viroaryan/arivna-browser under the GNU General Public License v3.0 or later. Bundled filter lists and libraries keep their own licences, listed in NOTICE.md.
How can I contribute?
Report bugs and broken sites, or suggest features, in GitHub issues. Code contributions are welcome as pull requests to the same repository; contributions are accepted under the project's GPL-3.0-or-later licence. Telling friends about Arivna helps too.
How do I contact you?
Email contactus@arivna.com or open a GitHub issue. The contact page says what to include for support, bug reports, security issues and press.
